The philosophy and deeper architecture beneath
Inside-Out Self-Design.

Heey, Alice — welcome — I’m glad you wondered to this side of the ‘land’…

OK — of course I know your name is not Alice, but it fits perfectly to the land you’re about to enter. Because Inside-Out Self-Design (IOSD) is not another hack or method for changing your mind, it’s a mind shift — a perceptual shift.

And just like in Alice’s adventures, once she’s drunk a potion, the world around her changes shape, size, feel, and by connection — it changes its meaning for her. In her journey she’s constantly having to reorient after each transformation. She doesn’t arrive once. She keeps becoming, then recalibrating. Because self-design is not about you finding a fixed Self. It’s about learning how to relate to your own changing proportions with more precision, play, and honesty.

So this space can be a similar threshold for you.

Not in a conceptual, intellectually exciting kind of way (although that is a factor too) but in a real — you-can’t-unsee-what-you-see kind of way. And just like with Alice’s potions — you drink it in — you take the good with the other.

Because while most typical self development methods sell you on a flat benefits-only structure, ignoring the reality that no change is ever just one thing. In reality, each door you choose to enter through holds the array of of that experience:

You may gain freedom, but lose the comfort of old camouflage.

You may gain self-trust, but lose the ability to tolerate misalignment.

You may gain clarity, but lose certain relationships, roles, or identities that depended on your former blur.

You may feel more yourself, but also more exposed.

IOSD works much like Alice’s potions: it offers you a different relationship with self development — with yourself and your ecosystem. And once you glimpse how your inner world and outer expression shape each other, you stop seeing style, behaviour, adornment, posture, choices, even environment, as random surface details. They become signals. Interfaces. Feedback. Levers. Invitations.

From that point on, every choice carries more signal. More authorship. More truth. Which is thrilling, liberating… and occasionally inconvenient. Because the potion doesn’t just open possibility. It removes the luxury of ignorance or unconsciousness.

So — if this excites you — this is the right place for you. And I welcome you again, Alice ;o)

Let’s jump deeper into the rabbit hole…

Before we go further, an important note: this is not where I suggest you begin if you’re new here. Start with Play first. That’s the lighter, lived way to test whether this lens resonates in your real life.

The Deeper Game is what sits beneath that play. It’s here if you desire to deepen how you approach yourself with curiosity, to observe how you are, decode what fits or not, then playfully integrate the changes that feel natural — then IOSD will be a beautifully self-nurturing loop. A way to fall in love with yourself in a very good way.

Where You Might Have Already Ventured

Now, I’d guess on your journey here, you’ve likely been handed plenty of maps.

Maps for becoming better.
Maps for becoming calmer.
Maps for becoming more disciplined, more healed, more confident, more productive, more magnetic, more whatever-the-era-is-selling… And more yourself!

I’d imagine some were useful, and even successful. Some — exhausting. Then some probably made you feel as if the problem was not the map — but the person holding it ;o)

The truth is simpler (and very intuitive once revealed): the most effective self-change begins not with following someone else’s better route more obediently. It starts from inside you — by learning the terrain you’re made of, with the curious mind of an explorer who wants to do right by the ‘land’ and its ‘inhabitants’.

You learn your ecosystem as it is in the moment you encounter and live it.

Not the idealised one. Not the aspirational one. Not the one with the polished captions and colour-coded habits. Or rose-coloured hopes.

The real evolving and complex human that you are moment-to-moment.

You get to “Know Thyself” from the inside out, and if you approach the process with kindness and curiosity, you start to witness your construction with some degree of objectivity. Hopefully you nurture the compassion you owe to yourself as another human. And then something happens: you become the observer AND the observed.

Just like Alice — as you walk through your life’s adventures — you witness yourself grow, or shrink, sometimes to the right size and sometimes way over the mark. But in observing you learn. And you do better next time. And you don’t just get to ‘know thyself’ — you also get to love thyself.

You can sense the things you can and should change. You find a way to accept the things you cannot change — with compassion and humility. And through that acceptance — you free up your true joy, and meaning, and fulfilment. As I like to say — you live you in your true colour and shine.

It’s a learned and earned state of being. And it’s been my path for a long time now. It’s the reason why this place exists.

It takes the often frivolously thrown around flatitudes (flat platitudes) like ‘know thyself’, ‘be yourself’, ‘love yourself’, ‘you are enough’, ‘practice radical acceptance’, and gives you a way to move through them into ‘the promised land’ of their benefits.

What is The Deeper Game… of Changing Your Mind.

The ‘magic potion’ I’m offering you in this space, is essentially a succinct and systematic approach to discovering your personal traits inventory, which you then map to give you the ‘lie of your kingdom’.

And while this layer sounds more involved than Play — it’s not heavier. It’s just a more intelligent and refined inquiry . It still moves and breathes with your natural rhythms. It’s still embodied through the original Play method.

You gather your traits inventory using specifically chosen, reliable traits evaluation systems. You map those traits into a Self Map with the help of your AI companion.

You do that once at the beginning — that’s really the ‘heavy lifting’ done.

After that you use your ‘map’ to dip in as the need nudges you to discover more about yourself. To nourish, to nurture, to grow. You and your Mind’s salience decide what to work on at any given time — so this part is very liberating, curiosity and openness-driven. The point of the map is to make future self-change more honest, more efficient, and more self-respecting.

You still use the A.B.C.D.D heuristic I’ve already shared with you to implement the changes you desire.

So the entire inside-out self-design process maps out like so:

1. You test with the carefully selected traits tests to gather your traits inventory. Each test is carefully chosen to give you a targeted view of the different areas of your life: work, social, love, problem solving, change management, communication style, fear management, etc. The traits you glean are not there for you to blindly follow or believe, but to see what you have to work with — your inventory of ingredients.

2. You map your ingredients into a Self Map (with the help of your AI companion) to be aware of how your internal land looks. You of course look at the data as the map — knowing that it’s not the same as actually being on the ground. But just as a map is useful to give you a context of how the landscape elements interact, your Self Map starts to reveal ingredient patterns. These patterns can start to explain behaviours you want to understand or work on. This step alone has resolved a lot of internal pressure for me and the clients I’ve worked with.

3. Once you’ve had a look at your Self Map — you could start with a value you’d like to work on, or something that feels salient to you at this season of your life. And with that ‘lens’ you look through you Self Map noting what you should pay attention to as you…

4. Use the already familiar ABCDD heuristic to play the change game you feel is relevant to you now.

Instead of asking, who should I be and what should I fix, you observe and note and seek to understand what’s true here?

  • What tends to work for me?
  • What creates friction?
  • What brings me to life?
  • What am I repeatedly trying to force that doesn’t fit my wiring, reason, season, values, or reality?

From here, you design more intelligently.

You stop treating change like a moral test. You enter into a playful, iterative practice of self design and nurture: a lens, a contract, to treat yourself the way you’d treat your best friend.

That way of self change is nearly noble. It requires the biggest shift — to stop wasting your energy following someone else’s change map, and to instead, trust your own encoding and nurture your own unfolding with the humility you deserve.

That way of being breeds allowance for others and acceptance for ourselves. It lets us relax our grip on how things should be without losing our edge for the life that we want. This way of self-design sharpens our orientation. It gives us permission to be as big as we can be. Because then we give the unspoken permission to those around us to also flourish.

Where to Next?

So — we’ve had a right ole’ trip through the metaphors of Wanderland. We’ve learned the newly invented term ‘flatitudes’ (sure, you can thank me later ;o) And we’ve drank a potion or two of self-dev realism…

If you’re still here — at least some of this likely appeals to you enough to lean-in. That’s a signal.

For now, that’s all I have for you.

Keep using the A.B.C.D.D play method. That’s the seed.

Shortly, I’ll have more hands-on stuff to share. It will be actionable, directly contribute to your efforts, and it will, dare I say, be transformational.

And before we part, I leave you with one of my poems. It came to me the way the designs for my jewelry come often — floating in :o)

Be Selfish to Nourish the World

We’re taught: to dim our ‘shine’!
Tone down your colours, don’t cross the line.
Don’t sparkle too loudly.
Don’t flood with your light.
To show your true fire might give them a fright.
The truth’s quite opposing to that old belief.
It takes real courage to set yourself free.
For your true beauty lies deep down, inside,
it’s hard to see freely for there’s nowhere to hide!
Now enter your jewellery:
What’s that got do
with you being ‘selfish’
and so boldly you?
Each piece that you pick — not a trinket for joy.
It shares your sparkle. It’s your truth AND your toy.
Your jewellery’s your message.
But YOU’re the true Gem.
By sharing your fire – you light more in them.
So go on — be selfish, in this non-standard way.
By choosing yourself, you let others play.
You give them a signal:
“Being me is okay.”
You quietly help them set free what they crave.

Anita :o)
P.S. Celebrate you. Live in your full colour & shine.
