Golden Brass with Meddeley of semi-precious stones

*from The Fool Collection

These are genuinely one of my favorite pieces I’ve produced (if not THE). Not just because they’re so quirky and colourful, but also because they’re called Angels!

They’re fun and light-hearted, AND elegant. Which is why they’ll go with any outfit – even a sulky black number (except you won’t be able to be sulky for too long ;o)

In terms of the design: it came to me from the urge to put together geometric shapes in an intricate framework. I had in mind to use different texture metals and stones, as well as different colours – but without looking like a circus.

The shape of an Angel appeared organically as I was playing with the positioning of some shapes I’d made. For me a lot of design works on the feeling I get, as I follow where the metals take me. It either feels/looks right, or uncomfortable, or just wrong… sometimes I can’t even say why…

The entire circular structure here is made of one uninterrupted piece of metal. Only the triangles are separately cut. And then woven onto the main body.

The little Angel on the other earring is a complimentary shape, but clearly not the same – after all no two Angels are alike. Each link on that long chain is hand-cut and linked (and yes – it is quite a long process, but very meditative for me – thank you)

Right at the end, when I’d actually finished the set, I thought: “How this being an Angel, you might want to also wear it as a pendant sometimes.” You know – as a bit of extra protection. Or a bit of extra flight of the spirit.

So I tinkered with a few bits here and there, and now you can see how the earring hoop detaches from the main body, leaving a flexible loop for you to thread your own chain into (it’ll fit most thin gold chains, and it’s light enough to not break it (what a good idea, Anita ;o)

The stones I used are a deliberate medley of colours and fun: pink Corals, pink Opals, Golden Citrines, and green and blue Apatites (I’ve linked out to the meanings of each of the stones in case you enjoy those stories). But to the senses – this is an invite to play. Innocently and cheekily. To push the line a little in a good-hearted way. To state a ‘secret message’ to yourself and others – intentionally.

As usual – I invite you let yourself feel into how the Angels affect YOU. At this moment. Because, art and beauty reveal the truth we need to see at that moment in time – if we let ourselves be with it with purity.

But beauty doesn’t always have to be pretty or meaningful. It’s just truth! It should be rationalised. It should be felt. In that way beauty has the power to make us present, and to keep us present each time we remember it and choose to witness it again.

Gemstones – genuine pink Corals, pink Opals, Golden Citrines, green and blue Apatites.
Base metal – Golden Brass. It looks just like 14K gold to start with and will wear pretty well.

The bigger Angel – 9.7cm long by 6cm wide, including the hoop if you’re wearing it as an earring. Or 7.4cm long by 6cm wide **as a pendant**.
The smaller Angel – 19.5cm long, and the body is 3.5cm wide and 3cm long (the total length coming to 22.5cm).

Care Tips

All pieces are created with natural metals and stones which makes them a little more vulnerable to their external environment. Please keep them away from chemicals like perfumes or hand sanitisers.
– Ideally store them in an enclosed space, as all metals react with air and water particles over time.
– You'll receive a shining cloth that you can use to it spruce up a little.
– You can freshen up the whole piece with a gentle rinse of soap & water, and in some heavier cases use baking soda & lemon juice paste.

Here are the most common ring sizes and their conversions across the main geographical regions.

If you don’t know the ring size you need, you could measure the circumference of your finger by using a piece of string. Wrap the string around your finger carefully without tightening or loosening it too much, and tie it in a knot. Cut the string anywhere else except on the knot. Then measure from one end of the cut to the other (across the knot). That’s your finger circumference to use to check up your size.

All pieces are created with natural metals and stones, which makes them a little more vulnerable to their external environment. Please keep them away from all chemicals and acids (like perfumes, creams, or hand sanitizers – anything that you wouldn’t eat :o).

Ideally, store them in an enclosed pouch or box, as all metals react with air and water particles over time. You’ll receive your piece inside a plastic zip-lock pouch with an anti-tarnish strip inside for that reason (certainly not because it makes it attractive – sorry). If you can keep your pieces inside those – great.

But I know we have better things to do than to be super strict with storing our jewelry the right way, so when your favorites get a little less than perfect, here are a few quick & easy steps to refresh them:

  • You’ll receive a shining cloth that you can use to clean your piece with, from time to time. This is great for a quick clean. Use the cloth as is – DO NOT WET it please, as it will get ‘gummy’. It will clean pretty much all types of metal with moderate tarnish. It will last a while, so keep it – it’s a good tool to have on your side.
  • When cleaning your pieces – be careful – don’t be too harsh with the stones. These can move or break – so please be kind.
  • Should you need to clean copper with more serious tarnish: use a salt : vinegar : water paste in roughly 1:3:3 parts ratios. Immerse the pieces (try to avoid dipping the stones for too long), and gently scrub with a toothbrush into the more intricate areas. This is a fantastic cleaner for copper – also a great party trick :o)
  • To clean your gold-like brass pieces: use normal toothpaste and an old toothbrush. Coat the piece with the toothpaste gently (don’t use water yet, or maybe just a little if needed. Rub with the brush or massage in with your fingers. Wash the toothpaste off thoroughly within a minute, as the paste may start to harden, which makes it harder to get off afterward. Make sure you’ve got all the toothpaste out.
