Golden Brass with Meddeley of Semi-precious Stones
These are genuinely one of my favorite pieces I’ve produced (if not THE). Not just because they’re so quirky and colourful, but also because they’re called Angels!
They’re fun and light-hearted, AND elegant. Which is why they’ll go with any outfit – even a sulky black number (except you won’t be able to be sulky for too long ;o)
In terms of the design: it came to me from the urge to put together geometric shapes in an intricate framework. I had in mind to use different texture metals and stones, as well as different colours – but without looking like a circus.
The shape of an Angel appeared organically as I was playing with the positioning of some shapes I’d made. For me a lot of design works on the feeling I get, as I follow where the metals take me. It either feels/looks right, or uncomfortable, or just wrong… sometimes I can’t even say why…
The entire circular structure here is made of one uninterrupted piece of metal. Only the triangles are separately cut. And then woven onto the main body.
The little Angel on the other earring is a complimentary shape, but clearly not the same – after all no two Angels are alike. Each link on that long chain is hand-cut and linked (and yes – it is quite a long process, but very meditative for me – thank you)
Right at the end, when I’d actually finished the set, I thought: “How this being an Angel, you might want to also wear it as a pendant sometimes.” You know – as a bit of extra protection. Or a bit of extra flight of the spirit.
So I tinkered with a few bits here and there, and now you can see how the earring hoop detaches from the main body, leaving a flexible loop for you to thread your own chain into (it’ll fit most thin gold chains, and it’s light enough to not break it (what a good idea, Anita ;o)
The stones I used are a deliberate medley of colours and fun: pink Corals, pink Opals, Golden Citrines, and green and blue Apatites (I’ve linked out to the meanings of each of the stones in case you enjoy those stories). But to the senses – this is an invite to play. Innocently and cheekily. To push the line a little in a good-hearted way. To state a ‘secret message’ to yourself and others – intentionally.
As usual – I invite you let yourself feel into how the Angels affect YOU. At this moment. Because, art and beauty reveal the truth we need to see at that moment in time – if we let ourselves be with it with purity.
But beauty doesn’t always have to be pretty or meaningful. It’s just truth! It should be rationalised. It should be felt. In that way beauty has the power to make us present, and to keep us present each time we remember it and choose to witness it again.
